Still young, Patrick is already determined to become a good programmer. “My dream is to build things that are useful to other people. As a programmer, you have many options. I could specialize in front-end, back-end, or perhaps even game design. Who knows where I’ll end up.”
The perks of being a frog
What does he think of aFrogleap so far? “I’m already learning new things. People are always willing to give me advice. There’s a lot to discover here. Not just front-end skills.”
But there’s more he’s excited about: “The lunch is great. I hadn’t expected it to be so extensive. All that food… I also like that the office has spaces where you can just sit back and relax. It’s a pleasant environment.”
Living in a world of bots
Artificial intelligence is one of the technologies that fascinates Patrick. Will computers be able to replicate the human brain?
“The idea of having a digital assistant that talks to you and helps you do things, that’s brilliant. You tell Alexa to turn off all the lights, and it just happens. Of course, we’re only at the start of finding out what AI can do. I would love a robot that cleans my home and cooks food. Will bots eventually outsmart human beings? I don’t think they’ll take over the world, but it’s a scary thought.”
A small step for a frog, a giant leap for frogkind
Before getting into programming, Patrick considered a career in astronomy. However, he soon realized that the work would be mostly mathematics, so he decided to turn space into a hobby instead.
“There’s so much to learn about the universe. The odds of the earth becoming an inhabitable place were so, so small. And yet it happened. Now people are talking about colonizing Mars. I wouldn’t wanna live there, but it’s a fascinating idea.”
So if Mars is out of the question, what about the moon? Would Patrick sign up for a SpaceX roundtrip?
“If I could visit the moon, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’d love to see the earth from space. But not on my own. I’d bring some friends and family. I wouldn’t wanna get bored out there.”
Ready… Set… Takeoff!
We’re glad that Patrick will be with us for the next six months. We’re sure he’ll do some great work and grow into a versatile programmer. Also, six months should be enough time to recruit a fellow astro-frog for that trip into the night sky.
