As you might have read by now, iOS 8 is experiencing some serious adoption issues. We will get into that later on.For Android there are no real new releases, but lets check out how the adoption of the preview for Android 5, Android L, is enfolding.

Lets get the graphs out!

For those who are not familiar with normal adoption rates of iOS versions, this might seem like a normal adoption curve. Unfortunately for Apple, however, this is far from true. The adoption of iOS 8 is lagging well behind when we compare it to its predecessors. 7 weeks after it's launch iOS 8 sits at a 51.3% session share across iOS apps. When we compare this to the adoption rate of iOS 7, we see that iOS had a 76.6% session share after the same amount of time. This means that iOS 8 is lagging behing a major 25.3% in adoption!

There are a few reason for the iOS 8 adoption being slow compared to its predecessors. The main one seems to be lack of necessary free disk space on the device. For an overview of problems and solutions with the installation of iOS 8, you can go here!

Apple released 2 patch version, iOS 8.0.1 and iOS 8.0.2. The iOS 8.0.1 update was withdrawn quickly because of an issue that impacted cellular network connectivity and Touch ID on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, so it does not even show up in our report. iOS 8.0.2 however, now sits at a 12.9% session share across iOS apps, down 28% from its peak in week 42.

That was it for this month's metrics! Stay tuned for November's edition.
