iOS and Android Landscape in January 2015

Hello Metrics fans! No fear, the monthly update is here! There are some exciting developments in the iOS and Android landscapes. Android 5 has landed on several top tier devices, so we expect it to pick up some steam this month. iOS8 hit a bit of a wall in adoption rate bij te end of 2014, lingering around 72.5% session share across iOS apps. Will it do better this time around? Also, Apple released a new patch version: iOS 8.1.3! Enough talk, lets get the graphs out!

The Android 5 session share is rising, but at a very modest pace. It gained 0.61%, going up from 1.69% to 2.30%. Android 2 has hit a new low and is now at just 2.38% session share!

After losing some ground in December (-1%), Android 4.4 got back on the horse in January. It grew from 57.86% to 60.11% (+2.25%) session share across Android apps.

Android 5's session share across Android apps is made up out of 3 different patch versions, Android 5.0.0 (0.67%), Android 5.0.1 (1.4%) and Android 5.0.2 (0.23%).

Where the gain of iOS8's session share across iOS apps seemed to have settled around 72.5%, it shows a healthy gain in week 5, landing at 76.1%!

iOS8.1 profits from the new patch release (iOS8 1.1.3) in week 5, growing to 73.4%.

iOS 8.1.3 was released on the 27th of January and shows a healthy adoption rate by shooting up to 23.1% session share across iOS apps
